I believe that NCSM is an important organization for leaders in mathematics education. It provides opportunities for professional learning designed to strengthen mathematics teaching and learning and ultimately have an impact on the mathematics learning of all students. It also provides opportunities for professional networking and collaboration that can help inform and sustain that professional learning. I also believe that the NCSM Journal of Mathematics Education Leadership is an important vehicle for sharing and discussing our professional learning with each other and with others. As the incoming editor of the journal, I look forward to working with those of you who have stories to tell about your leadership work-including how your work is informed by mathematics education research but also, and importantly, how the particulars of your work are shaped and informed by your specific contexts. I became a member of NCSM a number of years ago by beginning to attend an NCSM Annual Conferences. In looking for opportunities to learn more about how districts were supporting mathematics teaching and learning, and also in looking for opportunities to talk about what we were learning in Boston about this work, the NCSM program agenda seemed the perfect venue. I also found that by attending the NCSM Conference, there were lots of opportunities to chat informally with other district people and those working with school districts about their work. It is really a great community of learners, thinkers, and doers!
