How do I improve the educational experience for each student within my sphere of influence? This has been the driving question I have applied to the various leadership roles I have held at the school, district, and state levels. To address this driving question, I believe that the leaders will have the most impact on teaching and learning through focused coaching with teachers and administrators. NCSM provides each mathematics leader a unique opportunity to connect, engage, and learn with other supervisors and coaches in order to improve our practice.
As NCSM Professional Learning Director, I look forward to connecting with our NCSM member to support professional growth in order to impact teaching and learning.
In my first year as a district mathematics coach, my supervisor recommended that I join NCSM. At first, I was hesitant to join, because I did not hold the title of supervisor. Despite this hesitation, I joined NCSM and it has been the best decision to support my growth as a leader. Not only has NCSM provided focused professional learning and networking for mathematics coaches, but this organization has provided me the opportunity to enhance my thinking around supervision, curriculum development, and equity in mathematics education. As my career has evolved to a mathematics supervisor and director of curriculum and instruction, I have applied the knowledge I have gained through my NCSM experiences to my daily work. I am grateful to be part of this amazing community of leaders and look forward to the new ideas and research that will be shared in upcoming years.
