The purpose of the Maryland Council of Supervisors of Mathematics shall be:

• to assume a leadership role in all aspects of mathematics education in the state of Maryland,
• to provide for the interchange of ideas and current research involving supervision and curriculum development of mathematics education,
• to cooperate with other organizations and institutions of higher learning in the improvement of instruction and in curriculum planning in mathematics, and
• to maintain continuing activities which will provide for analysis of problems pertaining to all aspects of supervision and curriculum, and to provide the leadership for investigating the problems and possible solutions.
