This past year, I was privileged to attend a six-day residential leadership program organized by the Leadership Committee for for English Education in Québec (LCEEQ.) It was here that I was introduced to something called the Keep-Drop-Change initiative inventory. The idea is that, in schools, or maybe just in the field of education in general, we have A LOT of initiatives going on which divide our time and energy. With so many things on the go, we often feel like we never really seem to move forward on anything.
This especially rings true to me at the beginning of the school year when we are reenergized and keen to put into practice all of our Summer learning! The facilitator of the workshop, Mr. Ainsley B. Rose, challenged us to do a Keep-Drop-Change initiative inventory. We needed to come to a consensus on the five initiatives [maximum] we want to keep, the five initiatives we want to drop and the five initiatives we want to change. So I challenge you, at the beginning of this new school year, to make an inventory of all your projects;
- which five are moving you and your students forward,
- which five can you let go of, and
- which five can you tweak to get better results?
Remember, it not about how much you do, but rather how well you do it that really matters.

Au cours de l’année passé, j’ai eu le privilège d’assister è une formation de six jours organisé par le Leadership Committee for English Education in Québec (LCEEQ.) Cette formation était axé sur le leadership. Lors d’une des journées de formation le conférencier nous a parlé d’un inventaire d’initiative qu’il a nommé "Garder-Laisser Tomber-Modifier." Nos écoles, ou possiblement plus généralement le domaine de l’éducation, souffrent d’une ABONDANCE d’initiatives. Cette abondance d’initiatives divisent notre temps et nos énergies, nous laissant avec l’impression qu’on n’avance jamais.
L’idée que l’on souffre d’une abondance d’initiatives résonne certainement au début de l’année scolaire. Nos batteries sont rechargées, la période estivale nous a permis d’apprendre pleine de nouvelles idées que l’on veut mettre en place. Le conférencier, M. Ainsley B. Rose, nous a lancer le défi de faire un inventaire "Garder-Laissé Tomber-Modifier" de nos initiatives. Nous devions arriver è un consensus sur les cinq initiatives [maximum] que l’on voulait garder, les cinq initiatives que l’on voulait laissé tomber et les cinq initiatives que l’on voulait modifier. Alors, è l’occasion de la nouvelle année scolaire, je vous lance le défi de faire un inventaire "Garder-Laissé Tomber-Modifier" de vos initiatives;
- les cinq initiatives qui aide è vous devancer ou aide è devancer vos élèves,
- les cinq initiatives que vous pouvez renoncer, et
- les cinq initiatives que vous pouvez modifier pour améliorer vos résultats?
Un petit rappel: ce n’est pas la quantité qui compte mais plutôt la qualité qui est d’importance. En vous souhaitant une rentrée scolaire extraordinaire!
