2021 Summit Closing Speaker Taking the Next Steps as a Bold Leader-How Do We Make a Difference Back Home? How can we put together what we’ve heard, what we’ve learned, and what we’ve thought about during these (two and a half?) days? Let’s think together about how each of us can boldly move forward, regardless of our environment or role.

Cathy Seeley has been a teacher, a district mathematics coordinator and state mathematics director for Texas, with a lifelong commitment to helping every student become a mathematical thinker and problem solver. From 1999 to 2001 she taught in Burkina Faso as a Peace Corps volunteer and on her return served as NCTM President. Before and after those experiences, Cathy was a Senior Fellow at the Dana Center at The University of Texas. Her books include Faster Isn’t Smarter-Messages About Math, Teaching, and Learning in the 21st Century and Smarter Than We Think-More Messages About Math, Teaching, and Learning in the 21st Century, as well as two short books co-published by ASCD, NCTM, and NCSM: Making Sense of Math and Building a Math-Positive Culture. Currently, Cathy is a sought-after speaker, writer, and consultant on PK-12 mathematics teaching and learning, including numeracy, financial literacy, STEM, and rethinking the structure of high school mathematics. In particular, Cathy loves the role of wrapping up a focused conference to send folks off inspired to move from ideas to action.
