I first developed my love for teaching mathematics through the passion and dedication of the mathematics and education faculty who inspired me as an undergrad. I taught sixth grade before transitioning to the role of PK-6 math coach and found that I had a passion for supporting teachers in addition to students to help make math a sense-making, accessible subject for all learners. I spent 15 years in public education before transitioning to higher education in 2018. In my current role of Assistant Professor at UNO, I love being able to help develop the same passion in our future educators. I’m excited to continue on the NCSM team as the journal co-editor.
I attended my first NCSM conference in 2014, and it was such an amazing experience to connect with other mathematics educational leaders at the national level. I am so grateful to NCSM for putting on high quality programming and bringing in such a wide range of expertise from across the country. Finding this niche was exactly what I needed to deepen my own professional learning to support classroom teachers. I have been fortunate enough to present for NCSM at the annual conference in addition to serving on the board of directors. This is an amazing team of passion math ed leaders!
