Fall 2017

First of all, welcome back to another school year! I hope all of you find yourselves extra motivated this year. I know I do.

Just a couple of announcements to start us off:

I’m excited that we are hosting an NCTM Regional Conference in our region this fall. More than that, on the day before the NCTM Regional, NCSM will be hosting a Fall Leadership Seminar! This high quality professional learning opportunity is one you won’t’ want to miss. This year’s theme is Leading for Equity and Social Justice in Mathematics. If you haven’t learned as much as you’d like about social justice or you find yourself without a plan for how to address it in your personal professional context, then this event is for you. Just click on the link above for more information!

You’ll note below that there is a Making Math Meaningful through Collaboration conference in Lansing, Michigan on October 23, 2017. This is a unique conference in our state as it brings together general- and special-education mathematics teachers (and many others) to discuss how to better serve our students who have special needs. Related to this, I have been asked if there is a similar opportunity for leaders who dual-specialize in mathematics and special education. We have at least one of these individuals in Michigan who is interested in creating a small networking opportunity for leaders who share this specialization. If you are such a person and are interested, or know someone who might be, please let them know that there are other leaders out there looking for opportunities to collaborate. Please give them my contact information (on the right side of your screen as you read this) and encourage them to reach out. I would love to host a small gathering to build connections and collaboration!
