Lifelong learning is the ongoing, voluntary, and self-motivated pursuit of knowledge for either personal or professional development. What are you doing to continue your professional development in lifelong learning? As the roles in mathematics educational leadership varies, we must continue to increase our leadership abilities, connect with like-minded people and continue to motivate, encourage and inspire others. Learning can occur through various platforms, with the most common forms are through academic literature/courses, online resources, work experiences and professional learning opportunities.
Meaningful and ongoing professional learning help us in persevering and leading more effectively. Many excellent opportunities for professional learning were offered in the fall. There are still more opportunities for professional learning in Southern Region I during the Spring of 2019. Some of them are:
- Virginia Council of Teachers of Mathematics (VCTM) Annual Conference, March 8-9, 2019 at Longwood University
- North Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCCTM) Spring Leadership Seminar, March 24, 2019 at the Red Lion Hotel (formerly the Radisson) in High Point, NC
- South Carolina Leaders of Mathematics Education Annual Banquet and Meeting, May 3, 2019 at Seawells, 1125 Rosewood Dr. Columbia, SC

Take advantage of the opportunities for professional learning in your state or neighboring states in the spring. I hope to see some of you April 1-3, 2019 at the NCSM Annual Conference, Making Waves with Effective Math Leadership, in San Diego. Don’t miss this exciting event! Be sure to sign up to volunteer as well. It is a wonderful way to network with colleagues and speakers as you continue as a lifelong learner!
